1250 sq ft home with a mid fifties style, Glendale CA

I live in a 1250 sq ft home in Glendale CA with a mid fifties style that was attempted by the homebuilder in the early 1950’s. I would like to find an architect/designer you could advise me on a home remodeling project to either enhance the original design or assist me in modernizing the design/home interior. I have attempted contractors but they have little insight into my dilemma. I would like home improvement with the perspective of an architect/designer. I have funds but unwilling to let anyone come in and ‘remodel.’ I would like the design to have integrity. Is there anything you can do or do you know of anyone interested in the Los Angeles/southern California area. Thank you. Sincerely,  -Ed

    Ed,

    We are a firm in Asheville, NC. and are fans of Greene and Greene and the amazing bungalows they designed in the Pasadena and Los Angeles area. I’m not sure what style of home you envision at the end of your redesign, but I invite you to take a quick look at our website to see if any of the images interest you. Good luck in your search, and let us know if we can be of any help.

    Sincerely,

    Robert Stenhouse

    John,
    I’d be happy to help you. I also have a friend [ architect ] in Pasadena who is extremely talented and capable.
    From you posting, it seems you have two basic directions in mind:
    1. enhancing and supporting the original “history” of the period your home was constructed, or;
    2. creating something completely different and contemporary within the “bones” of the original.
    These are both logical. The most important thing to do, in my humble opinion, is to create a home that supports and enhances your life and lifestyle first.
    Living in a museum or art piece is fine too, but is not for everyone.

    Hi Ed.
    Look up Eric Ryder, of http://www.ryderdesign.com. He has worked on many houses in the Los Angeles area, and his taste is immaculate. I have admired his work for years, and with his dedication and interest in architectural history, I believe he will exceed your expectations.

    Best,

    Darren
